CQT Scholarship & Features

This page provides detailed information about CQT PhD Scholarships, which are administered by the Centre and lead to degrees awarded by the National University of Singapore. For an introduction to our PhD programme, please visit our page for students. Note the terms below are specific to the CQT programme. Students with funding from other programmes may also be supervised by CQT Principal Investigators or CQT Fellows.

Terms

 

  • Monthly stipend for international students are S$3,300 which will be revised to S$3,800 upon passing the qualifying exam; for Singapore citizens, the respective amounts are S$4,000 and S$4,500, and they also receive the prevailing employer's contribution to CPF; for Singapore Permanent residents, the respective amounts are $3,700 and $4,200.
  • Annual tuition fees and mandatory miscellaneous fees.
  • One-off airfare to Singapore reimbursed up to S$1,500.
  • A research allowance of S$12,000 for academic travel, a one-off expense towards a computer and purchase of books and software during the period of candidature, subject to prior approval of all expenses.

Eligibility

 

  • Open worldwide.
  • Graduates with a passion for research in quantum information.
  • Graduates with at least good 2nd Upper Honours, or equivalent qualifications.

Application Procedure

 

Application is open throughout the year.

 

To start the application process, the applicant would need to contact one of the Principal Investigators (PIs) or CQT Fellows and request if he/she could supervise you. Please include in your first email your CV and supporting documents eg. academic qualifications/transcripts. The CQT PI/Fellow and you should decide on a preliminary project. Once they have agreed to supervise you and decided on a project, please forward the approval email from the CQT PI/Fellow to cqtphd@nus.edu.sg. Upon receipt of the approval email, you will be informed to apply officially via the NUS online application system. At the same time, please send hard copies of your CV and the following documents by post to the CQT Programme Administrator.

 

Checklist of documents:

 

  • Curriculum vitae.
  • A certified true copy of your NRIC or Passport.
  • A certified true copy of your National Service certificate (if applicable).
  • A certified true copy of high-school level results or equivalent.
  • Certified true copies of award/prizes and certificates (if any).
  • GRE scores (Mandatory for applicants applying for admission in AY2023/2024 onwards). An aggregate minimum score of 320 for the GRE Verbal (V) and Quantitative (Q) sections (V+Q= 320) and a minimum score of 3.5 for the Analytical (A) section; With effect from August 2023, all PhD applicants will be required to submit their GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores. However, students with an excellent academic track record from renowned universities may request a waiver of this requirement.
  • OpenCerts (if available) or Certified true copies of university transcripts and degree scrolls.
  • Two letters of recommendation to be emailed directly to cqtphd@nus.edu.sg.
  • One passport-sized photograph taken within the last 3 months, clear and in focus, 35mm wide by 45mm high, without any border (non-returnable).
  • Any other supporting documents that could strengthen your application. eg. a personal statement

Important Notes:

 

1. The University has not engaged any external agencies to undertake student recruitment on its behalf.
