Talk on: The Computational Power of Translationally Invariant Hamiltonians

Abstract: After introducing the basic constructions of quantum state transfer and global control/quantum cellular automata, I will show how these can be combined to design a Hamiltonian which is local in 1D, translationally invariant as well as rotationally invariant, and yet can implement an arbitrary quantum computation through its dynamics. On the way, we can also see how implement Seth Lloyd's idea of a universal quantum interface in some simple examples.
