Post-doctoral positions: Lu+ optical atomic clock experiment

Job Purpose:

There are two post-doctoral positions available at the Centre for Quantum Technologies within the experimental group lead by Associate Prof. Murray Barrett working on the Lu+ optical atomic clock experiment.


The project aims at the development of a frequency standard based on singly ionized Lu+, which uniquely supports three possible clock transitions. Currently the experiment supports two independent ion trap systems allowing independent experiments and clock comparisons to be made. Aside from the obvious goal of establishing high accuracy frequency comparison between the two systems, there are three main themes of interest: establishing a multi-ion clock for improved clock stability, implementation of quantum logic for Heisenberg-limited spectroscopy, and the development of a portable clock system.



Candidate must have a PhD in a relevant experimental field. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be essential: Ion trap experiments, optical clock technology, precision measurement, or hands on experience with computer-controlled electronic system design.
